Before the Machine Arrives: 6 Things to Do
Call 811 Before You Dig
Florida law requires you to call 811 at least 2 business days before any excavation. It's free and marks underground utilities so you don't hit a gas or water line.
Clear the Access Path
The excavator needs a clear path from the delivery truck to your dig site. Move vehicles, remove low-hanging branches, and open any gates before we arrive.
Mark Your Dig Area
Use spray paint or stakes to mark exactly where you want to dig before we deliver. Saves time and prevents mistakes once you're in the seat.
Plan Where Dirt Goes
You'll move a lot of soil. Decide in advance where you're piling it — or if you need a dumpster alongside the excavator to haul it away. We can deliver both.
Have a Helper Ready
One person operates the machine, another guides and watches for obstacles. Working with a helper makes the job faster and safer.
Wear the Right Gear
Steel-toed boots, gloves, and eye protection are a must. The machine moves dirt fast and debris can fly. Dress for the job before we walk you through the controls.
⚠️ Important: Call 811 Before Every Dig
This isn't optional. Florida Statute 556 requires calling 811 before any excavation. It's free, takes 2 minutes on the phone, and can save your life — and your neighbor's utility service.

Operating the Machine: What to Expect
When we deliver, we'll walk you through the controls — it usually takes about 15–20 minutes to get comfortable with the basics. Mini excavators are designed to be intuitive, but there are a few things first-timers always ask about:
The Two Joysticks
The left joystick controls the upper body (swing left/right) and the stick/arm (in/out). The right joystick controls the boom (up/down) and the bucket (curl/dump). Most people get the hang of it within the first 30 minutes.
Travel Controls
The foot pedals and levers at the bottom control forward/reverse travel and turning. Go slowly at first — the machine is more responsive than it looks.
Work in Sections
Don't try to excavate full depth in one pass. Work in layers — take 6–8 inches of depth per pass and move across the area systematically. You'll move more material faster and have better control.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Rental Day
- Start early. Morning light is better for seeing the terrain and you have the whole day ahead if something takes longer than expected.
- Fuel check. We deliver with a full tank — just let us know if you think you'll need more than a day's worth.
- Keep the bucket full. Short, full bucket cycles are more efficient than long, partial ones.
- Don't rush the swing. Let the machine do the work. Smooth, deliberate movements get more done than jerky fast ones.
- Take breaks. Operating heavy equipment is more fatiguing than it looks. Short breaks keep you sharp and safe.

Do I need a license or special training to operate a mini excavator?
No license is required to operate a mini excavator on private property for non-commercial use. We provide a full walk-through of the controls when we deliver. For commercial or public work, check with your local authority.
Will it fit through my gate?
Our compact excavator fits through most standard residential gates (36 inches or wider). Measure your gate opening and call us — we can confirm fit before delivery.
Can I rent the excavator with a dumpster at the same time?
Yes — and it's a popular combination. We deliver both on the same trip when possible. The excavator digs, you load the dumpster. Efficient and cost-effective.
What happens if I damage the equipment?
Our rental agreement covers normal wear and usage. Damage from misuse or accidents is the renter's responsibility. We walk through the machine's condition with you at delivery and pickup so everything is documented.
How far do you deliver?
